What's involved? Reverse pattern valve bodies

OK, I'm building a ChumpCar . This series really makes you do things as cheaply as possible! I'm going to be running a Ford C4 auto transmission, and I'd like the shift pattern to be reversed for the forward gears. But a valve body that's been modified for this will ding me $150, and my "competition value" can't be more than $500. Which means that I can't afford to buy this, or at least can't afford to admitting buying it. So, since I have pretty decent machining and fab skills, what goes into modifying a C4 valve body to reverse the shift pattern?
