whats this part called?

hi, iam wondering what this part of the vehicle is called(the area in the red rectangle)and if there is normally any beams in this.

In your part of the world it might be called the 'sill' as in door sill.

I seem to remember this word being used in the UK and europe although it's been a while since I was there.

Both right?

This may be stupid but I think you are both right.
The surface that is curved down on the outside is the rocker panel, and the flat part n the top side is the door sill.
I could be wrong.

My pleasure As for the beams (frame rails), I would say for a unibody car like yours there were none there. If you wanted to shore it up by adding some, even temporarily, it would be fine. Looks like you are doing a thorough job of rust removal. Best of luck with your car!

BTW I think Customconspiracy is correct. I say this because the aluminum trim on top of the area is called a sill plate.
