whats too much bore and stroke for 454 2 bolt main

hey guys i have a question for the motor man, i'm a body work man and thats what i do...i have the touch/feel for body work but not know how for mechanic....i'm building a blown 454 for a 68 chevelle fyi.....the guy that is helping me build the motor is suggesting more displacement...i thought no biggie maybe a 461 or 468....but he's talking a 496 or 502...i understand that anything can work if it's built right...but is that much bore "okay" for a 454 i mean 502 seems like a big jump...i realize it's also rod size but...can sum1 possibly reasure me on this guys thinking....i believe theres no replacement for displacement

496 is usually about the limit for most stock block 454s. I think the 502 has a bore of 4.46 or 4.47! 60 over is a usual limit for the 454; maybe you can go more....have the block sonic checked if you want to go more. Stroke is pretty much limited to 4.25! And, with that there is some clearance grinding on the bottom of the cylinder.
