Wheel and Tire selection
I am currently building a 1950 Chevy Pickup. We have installed a mustang II front end with 2" drop spindles. I have also changed out the rear to a 10 bolt from a 69 Camaro to get the 5 lug pattern. I am planning on purchasing some 17 or 18" wheels but I am not sure of an appropriate wheel width, backspace, and actual tire size that will fit and avoid tire rub during turning.
Does anyone have a wheel and tire size suggestion? |

First thing is you need to do some measuring in the wheelwell. See how much room you have from the flange of the axle to the lip of the fender. Your backspace is measured from the flat of the inside of the rim to the top of the rim. In easier terms.....take the rim, flip it over , put a straight edge across the whole rim, and now measure from the flat of the bolt pattern to the top of the straight edge. That will give you the backspace. Usually backspace is anywhere from 4.5" to 7" depending on how wide the wheel is.
Check out some websites like Tirerack.com.......you can get some idea of what size, widht etc from there.,just my 2 cents |
