When working on a positive ground truck...
do I...
- unhook positive first when taking out a battery (and hook it up last when putting back in)? - hook up negative first when connecting it to a battery charger? Thanks, Mike |

you always disconnect the ground side first, that way if while dissconnecting the FIRST wire you manage to tap the wrench on bare metal like a bolt, scraped paint or rust, you wont cause a spark that blows up the battery
after the first wire is off, obviuosly the second wire cant throw sparks i watched a battery explode in a mechanics face once, but he was lucky that he had been doing some grinding right b4, and still had his protective face sheild on , full set of coveralls and gloves because of the sparks went to reconnect the battery and it had an internal defect, exploded from the inside , both fill caps were still on tight on the battery top too ... |
