when would u switch from a nitrous carb plate to a direct port
I was wondering at what shot of nitrous would you change from a nitrous carb plate to a direct port. When would it not be safe to run the plate. I'm running a single plane manifold and want to run 250-300 shot with racing gas. I'm not the richest person and a fogger system is a little hefty, I was looking at a big shot kit instead, but if it's not worth the risk. All information is helpful, thanks.

IMO the plate is fine for what your doing. Just make sure you follow the makers instructions. Don't try to trick it out untill you get it up and running and are confident it the tune first.....
The foggers are much more tunable, and you can address each cylinder with your tune. I have a big shot plate on my car and i am planning on running the biggest jets in it once i get the chassis sorted out. I am running the 150 shot right now and have had zero issues with it.
you add the fogger when you either need the looks or the plate isn't making what you need.
Basically run up to 350hp then add the fogger in addition to the plate and you have a two stage system good to 800+ hp.
Plate system vs. Nozzle system.
There are pros and cons to both styles of systems.
A plate system is easier to plumb, costs less, but will hit harder. While a nozzle system will be easier to fine tune, run more precisely, and doesn't hit the chassis as hard.
"When should I go from a plate system to a nozzle system?" The main reason would be if you were having distribution problems. Certain intake manifolds will inherently have distribution problems (rich, and lean cylinders) and running a plate nitrous system will make this worse. The next reason would be to dependent on your available traction. You can run more nitrous through a nozzle system than a plate system since it will not shock the chassis, and tires as much giving you better performance in certain applications. Lastly it would be a matter of rules, or the look that you want.
