Where to buy 1/8"leg staples? Installing headliner
I'm installing a headliner in a 69 Camaro and am trying to find some staples with a 1/8" or 3/16" leg on them for stapling the back to the strip behind the sail panels. Any ideas? I've checked Lowes, Ace hardware and auto parts stores.
Thanks, Chip. |
I have never seen 1/8" staples, I don't think they exist, but there are 3/16" staples out there. I don't think you'll find 3/16" leg staples for anything other than a gun that shoots fine wire staples. I use BEA 71 pneumatic staplers and staples, and 3/16" staples in both regular and stainless steel are available for them.
What kind of staple gun are you using? If you're looking for T-50 Arrow staples, look online, but I don't think they come shorter than 1/4" which should work for you anyway. I usually use 5/16" stainless. |
Yup, Bostitch T50. I'm contemplating the 1/4" staples and just bend them over once they're driven.
|
You really shouldn't need to bend them over, 1/4" should work just fine. If not, try driving them at a slight angle, or better yet, replace the old tacking strip with something thicker.
|
The reason I'm guessing I need the 1/8" is because the staple strip is 1/8" thick wood, backed by steel.
|
Is there any way to replace the tack strip with something thicker? Just pop rivet it down.
|
I never thought of that. I'll look at it tonight. Thanks.
