Hey gang....I was told about this Bulletin Board by a member on another... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/ ...check them out...great bunch of guys and girls over there. Looks like you have a great group over here too! :)

Ok...Ok...enough Schmoozin'..... I wanted to know if you guys had any suggestions on buying upholstery grade - full leather hides. I am looking to buy 12-15 yards of leather and want it all to be dyed in the same "lot"....either a Lipstick Red or a Navy Blue....

Also, what are your thoughts on Utra-Leather and the Ultra-Suede products?? I like the looks of this particular product, but who can afford it??? Anyone know of an affordable supplier??

Any thoughts and suggestions are welcomed!!

Thanks Gang and I look forward to reading and contributing where I can over here!!

Shane buying leather is reletivly simple dependinding on what your looking for. Although it isn't cheap, but to get the best bang foor you buck just keep an eye out for quality such as grain type, thickness strenth and of course the same dye lot so you don't get two different colors. To get the best deal you should visit a tanning shop, apolsterers are the second stop but they will always be more exspensive. Ultra suede and ultra leather are very good products. I've used the suede a number of times and had great results. I have found them to be reletivly inexspensive ($15-$35 per 50" wide yard) Where have you been pricing it?

I have priced it at Upholstery Shops in my area. I am not an upholstery tradesman, so I am not sure of other outlets to do my "window shopping." ...I am at the mercy of my local "stitcher." LOL :)

Are there any suppliers of this product that will sell straight to the public (me)without going thru the middle-man (upholstery shop)??

Thanks!

Shane, I'm a low buck rodder, I buy stuff on special and the colors that are no longer made. I also know my local gal pretty well so she gives me a good price. I don't ever unless its for safety buy anything new or full price. Look at the specials and discontinued colors, buy more than you will need just incase you need to redo.

Hey HalloweenKing, what do you think of the durability of those products? Their UltraSuede light and soft are at some great prices, but would you use them on a seating surface? I'm thinking headliner and door inserts, but what do I know? :) The HP line seems to be more designed for upholstery, but it's way more expensive...

first of all, leather is sold by the square foot.an average hide is about 54 to 62 sq.ft.u should use upholstery grade hides or aircraft quality.there are prices allover the board...$2.65 a sq. to $9.00 a sq. You better know your source when buying leather!ultraleather &suede are very exellent products.they are expensive.but stillcheaper than leather.i sell ultras at my cost...when u have the work done at my shop!
