Where is my 305 from?? Is it a ligit Chev Engine

Ok guys, I managed to find my way to this website as I came across a post earlier from here that kindda addressed my topic. Basically, I typed in on google Rochester 210 Carburetor 305...I found my way here....Ok, the problem. I ve got a 72 K5 Blazer. The previous owner said that he replaced the original 350 with the 305, but couldn't provide any further details ....I do know its a 305 as I can see the numbers on the bottom half of the engine. It has a Rochester Dualjet 210 Carb, I've also been able to assertain that. My question, would anyone have "any idea" of what kind of vehicle the 305 came out of, as it would make getting parts specific to the engine easier in the future (instead of just trying to match things up). And, where exactly is the engine serial number listed on the engine block, as I haven't been able to find that. Finally, is the 305 a true Chev manufactured engine (or was the displacement and compatability with chevy trucks just a bonus) Thanks for any help guys.
Frank

the suffix code will tell you what it came out of, it`s on the front passenger side block deck, the deck will out past the head about a inch, on this pad is where you`ll find it, you can then go to nastyz28.com and they have the codes there. Chevrolet interchange ability is what makes the small block so popular. Chevy made in the small block line 262, 265, 267, 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350 and 400 cubic inches. 305`s came in many passenger cars and pickups throughout the late 70`s, all through the 80`s and well into the 90`s.

well if you were to find out the cast number it will tell you the year ( or the general year or years ) it was and from that you should be able to get parts for it. the casting number is on the right side on the bell housing flange. just look behind the right side head. then the one question you had if it was a true chevy engine, yes it was and when you are ever in the junk yard or something like that, most ( i dont know if all ) small block chevys should be reletively interchangeable. 305s came in an assortment of cars and trucks im sure. i hope this helps.
