where should timing mark be

recently acquired a rebuilt sbc long block and wanted to know should the balancer timing mark be on to 0 tdc mark or 10' btdc mark before distributor install. cause ive read some threads that say line it up with the 0 tdc and some say 8 to 12 btdc. thanks in advance.

People do this differently depending on how they were taught.

Basically you want there to be at least 10 degrees BTDC, regardless if you get it by setting the TDC line of the damper at the 10 degree mark of the timing tab and align the rotor to the #1 distributor cap terminal (which is what I do), or if you use TDC and add the advance by turning the distributor.

ok il do it that way when align the rotor button and number 1 on the cap should have it directly line up or a little before or after number 1 and thanks for your help
