white stuff? what's that....

the snow continues to fall here in the pac-nw which can mean only one thing - NO SCHOOL!

yep, this calamity known as winter has frozen up our little end of the world, and now it's time to sit back and watch TV all day drinking hot cocoa and maybe catch up on some homework I haven't done yet.

this much snow hasn't come to oregon in a long time - last year we didn't get any!

anyway, since it's currently about 26 deg. outside, I figured i would let everyone know how happy i am to not have to drive for an hour to Portland to go to school, and hoping anyone else from this area has a safe journey out there!

frozen tundra!!!

Man its colder than a well digger's ***** here, its been trying to be winter here for a week now and, as usual in this part of the country when we are threatened with a little snow, the media doesn't do anything but head for the hyway overpasses, with the satilite trucks and the greenhorn reporters all bundled up in their blue network jackets, its really funny to watch these guys tell everybody that its snowing out, camera rolling on their feet scraping the ground as they show the folks back home what snow looks like," its really trecherous out here" they say, better stay home, everyone here has some kind of SUV that has never been in 4 wheel dr, most probably don't know it is a 4 w/d, T.V is really entertaining, but this time its cold, and freezing rain IS treachious, looks just like wet pavement, but slick as snot, and usually in patches so you don't expect it , and it'll get ya,
I bet you folks up north are laughing your butts off at us and our thoughts of cold and snow, nothing compaired to your part of the country, I'll settle for a little rain any day,
Well I guess I'd better get back to the news and see if its gonna snow, Bill

We are supposed to get 12-24 inches, but so far today we have gotten about TWO inches.
So life in Vancouver B.C. ain't grinding to a halt yet!

it's funny, in Portland when we first had snow, downtown was SHUT DOWN! the funnier thing is, when we get ice in the mornings, the large thoroughfare from the coast to portland has a giant hill to cross over (rex hill) - i drove in it with a little chevy cavalier to school, as i was driving it, about 10 SUVs were parked on the side with their flashers... they couldnt figure out how to engage their 4x4 (haha)

the news in oregon consists of one story for one hour.
actual quote i just heard...."here in portland, the sleet coming down is frozen and is causing traffic problems.... take it slow out there and remember chains.... this "storm" has really taken a toll on the metro area, and we expect big delays - stay tuned for constant updates of "WINTER STORM 04!"

bring me back my rain.

Its the same here, where we get lots of snow every winter. The 1st snowfall, it seems that everyone forgot how to drive since the last snowfall. Nobody slows down, there are cars all over the place. The idiots with the new SUVs are the worst, they think that 4 wheel drive makes them invincible.

I'm 45 mi north of Seattle and we rarely get any snow, so when we do it's a riot. On the news last nite they were doing the man/woman on the street interview and some guy visiting from Boston cracked up when they asked him about the BIG (2" of snow) Storm.

Thats the same way here in NW PA. when the rain starts to freeze, or the snow starts to become a visibility problem for some, we all have to suffer.
The invincible ones are the first ones off in the ditch.
I learned a long time ago that 4WD only allows you to GO more places, it does NOT help you out in the stopping department, unless you like that kind of "excitement"??
We currently have 3 inches, and the forecast calls (depending on the source) for anywhere from nothing to 10 inches.

The ground here is frozen at the current 3 degrees F, and the ground finally froze enough for me to drag the Suburban to its final location to start working on it.

i haven't been in any white out, but i can say that the ice on the roads makes me about crazy - cops everywhere and the only way to get going is spin the tires until rubber grips.

but now that the rain is back, i can feel better attempting to drive in rush hour traffic to school.

it just doesn't feel right - all that snow an' all.

All I can say is "I live in Ohio"...The fellow Ohioans know exactly what I am talking about. We have the wackiest weather from November to May.... 10* one day 50* the next, rain and snow at the same time all with the sun shining just up the road....yeah, it sucks.
Later,
WEIMER

I live 20 minutes north of Syracuse (NY) . I got 12"of white gold yesterday, with more on the way. An hour north, they got 3 feet with lake effect cooking all today, too. Should be close to 5 feet before the system is done. Finally time to break out the snowmobiles. Syracuse "officially" has over 60" for the whole season. At home we are closer to 80" . Tug Hill should have over 100" registered by now. Gotta love the Lake Ontario Lake Effect Machine!! Sad part is that the roads are bare within an hour of the stuff hitting the ground. The local DPW's are awesome at snow removal. No running the sleds down the road....unless you got wheels in the skis !

Well, let's see Fri, it was a high of 71F and I went and picked up the lumber for the new section of deck my wife wants on the back of the house, Sat , I framed up the deck and started screwing in the floor, sweating like a pig in Tshirt and 73 degrees, Sunday, finished up the floor, stroked up the PU for a PM car club meeting, high of 76. This morning, spring is over and winter is here at 12F.
