Who I am

I'm semi-retired now, long-time background in physics and engineering. Love hot rods, became an active hobbyist about 20 years ago. Have built and run a 1985 Chevy half-ton pickup with an RHS crate motor and a B&M 144 'baby blower' (great highway sleeper), a '68 Firebird with a 406 Chevy, the original Trick Flow heads and various cams (never got it where I wanted though), and lately an old-school 10:1 355 with WP Sportsman heads and a Cam Dynamics #10018 3/4 cam (verrrry ill-tempered!) with fast-bleed lifters, a Weiand single-plane and (currently) a Holley 770 SA carb. Oh yeah, and a set of $180 (no kidding) stainless headers that are smaller than my old Hookers but seem to work great. It's in a '72 Camaro with a prepped th350 (B&M 3000rpm converter) and a '70 12-bolt rear with Richmond 3.73s and a posi (had Auburn, now have Eaton). Use 275/60r15s on the back to knock the effective gear down to about 3.50 for the highway. Goes great, ugly when cold but great when warmed up. Have put about 30,000 miles on it; still doesn't eat oil! Use Supertrapps as exhaust tips on the Flowmaster pipes to help tune the backpressure.

Welcome to the site, post some pics when you get a chance. You sound like a gearhead kind of guy, always room for that here . Dan

Hi Commander!

Theory is great sometimes but I learn way more from the experience of people on sites like this one! Just figured I'd join to add my 2c when I see something that looks familiar, and maybe even help someone. I think we all run into something that others may not have along the way. I like to pick my own specs and put together my own combos, but stuff like the gmpp ct525 is making me wonder if I'm not getting obsolete! I'm just not sure I'd want to lift the hood of my Camaro and see an LS looking back at me... but then I wonder how many flathead fiends in the day said the same thing about the SBC.
