re: who makes the better tools
Paul M:call SnapOn direct they will replace tools that their individual dealers won't. I have even gotten "comp" bucks from them direct, to compensate me for their rouge butthead dealers.
I have bought and used SnapOn MAC OTC IR and Matco for over 50 years and love them. (I now have the dealers lookout for me when they repop tooling and get the stuff for about 50% of list.) One of my favorite "tools" currently is a MILLER .....and don't forget MR BlueTooth with Smith gauges... |

re: who makes the better tools
Also if you complain about that "butt-head" dealer they will tune him up too! Usually if just one person complains they won't say much to a dealer but if he truly is bad then others will complain also and Snap-On simply will not stand for letting the dealers insult customers! Personally I have never had that sort of problem with any of the dealers I have dealt with and most will bend the rules the other way to keep a customer happy. These guys make their living by establishing good relations with their customers and they have to have the repeat business that comes with working with the guys who use the tools.

"Personally I have never had that sort of problem"
You never had the pleasure of meeting the one and only Frank DeLuca.... This guy would pull you out from under a car, when on a creeper, to get his dough....a real peach of a guy... |

And only the ones with no moving parts. Had a Craftsman's hack saw w/ stripped threads on the tightener bolt and they wouldn't replace it. Have had Sears give me the third degree on misusing screwdrivers and accuse braking them on purpose. Don't bother with them any more, not worth the hassle. Get most all my tools from Harbor Freight. Anything breaks - electrical, pneumatic, hand tools, etc., they replace it no question asked. Bought a 1/4" ratchet there, got the cheapest one since I use it maybe once a year, and it fell apart. Took it back and the salesman said, "You obviously use this more than it was intended. You need this top-of-the-line model", and gave it to me at no added cost. Sure there are some HF tools that are junk from the start. Never get hack saw blades, metal shears, or reciprocal saws there. Total junk. However, their 4"-5" grinders, hand wrenches, screwdrivers, pneumatic tools have equaled the best 'professional' tools in my hobbyist use. I have some of their stuff that is nearing 30 years old with heavy, abusive weekend use (I seem to remember oiling one of my pneumatic tools some time in the 90s - or was it the 80s? - memory fails) and they are still going. If you are a pro, by all means go Snap On, Mac, SK, etc. - the service alone is worth the price, even if they weren't superior quality. However if you are a weekend warrior like me, you can't beat the value of most HF tools. You can have a complete tool crib for the price of a basic wrench set of the big guy's. Oh, and the Husky, Kobalt, etc., in-house brands are just Harbor Freight Chinese tools w/ different names stamped on them. |
