re: who makes the better tools

Most of my tools are all S-K. Got my first set when I was just 17 and started driving and working on cars...Since then, I've stuck with them. I think the quality is still there. For some specialty tools, Craftsman has some interesting and ingenious stuff. I would have gone with Snap-On, but it was out of my price range when I first started out. I'll stick with S-K unless they don't make a tool I need.

re: who makes the better tools

Steve, S-K has always been a very good tool and the only reason it is not as popular here as it once was is it's availability, or lack of. Years ago they were widely used by mechanics here maintaining mining machinery and they did an excellent job with durability that was as good as anything out there. You can definitely count on S-K to do the job for you.

re: who makes the better tools

I have a mixed set of tools mostly Snap On and Gray, got some Matco and Mac as well plus alot of other brands. Most of my Snap Ons I bought off of E Bay at a fraction of the price.

Been buying buying tools since I was 16 and if I had to start all over again I'd go with Snap On

There are many professional tool outlets;
  • SNAP-ON

  • MAC

  • MATCO

  • CORNWELL

  • WRIGHT

  • And the are Independent S*K Dealers (tool trucks)

Personally, I have used S*K since I bought my first set off a MAC truck in 1966. What S*K didn't offer in selection was obtained from MAC. Of course, I have many specialty tools, OTC, ROTUNDA and the like.

Usually, if a tool shows mistreatment, it will not be exchanged. Now if you are a serious customer with a tool truck, he may exchange it on a personal level. Whether he will be able to turn it in is doubtful. If you need a hammer, you buy a hammer. If you need a pry bar, you buy a pry bar, not bend a good screwdriver.

re: who makes the better tools

Matco, Snap-On, Blackhawk, Napa,Craftsman, all found in my box. Like the craftsman wrenches, the finish allows you to grasp them with oily hands, The Snap on wrenches i have look really cool, however, when my hands are slightly oily, they are a ***** to hang on to. Napa screwdrivers are junk. I have a set of Matco & a set of S&K, both serve me well. I also have a 3.5 oz hammer, cutest thing in the box, and unbelievebly handy.
now, where did i put my beer????????????????

re: who makes the better tools

i was pretty lucky and kinda of "fell" into a bunch of snap on tools. My granddad passed away and was a mechanic for 40 years so he had all kinds of hand tools still at his house. I love the snap on tools. We got a new snap on rep at my work and he has been good to me so i have racked up quite a good tab. Its all about the comfort with snap on, they feel so good in my hand, same with the other big brand such at mac matco and cornwell. S&K i have a bunch of them too from my grandpa. Now that im maken a few dollars i buy tools from snap on and matco. Craftsman is great for the house and some misc. stuff they have is pretty sweet. OTC is amazing for there specialty stuff like ball join remover tools and hub bearing kits.

S-K tool source

In case anyone is interested, I found a good website that has most if not all of the S-K tool line. Prices aren't bad either....

http://www.mytoolstore.com/sk/catalog.html

They carry a lot of other tool brands as well.

re: who makes the better tools

We use Snap on at work. I hate them. The extensions fit loosely and flop around. Craftsman are ok but I don't like the locking mechanism. Since I am Canadian, I prefer Mastercraft. There is a Canadian Tire located in every back water town. They are open til 9 PM everynight. So, I can get warranty anywhere anytime.

re: who makes the better tools

most of my 3/8 sockets and extensions are snap on but you couldent give me a snap on ratchet if I had to use it
I trades all my snap on ratchets for S-K 20 years ago and never found a better one yet except for that blackhawk one i bought that the handle twists but it hasent been abused yet so ask me an a couple of years

one the same note ive never broken one of my snap on sockets

I really dony care for how it feels in my hand as long as I can hold it if im into grease up to my ears

I got used to working with 2 pairs of brown jersey gloves on in the bone yards
and a S-K and a snap on feels bout the same anyway IMO

re: who makes the better tools

I have a mix of all the brands ( 3 big roll around cabinets and chests full) About 30 % of them are Mac and 20% are Snap-On...the other 50% are a mix of Craftsman, S-K, New Britian, Napa, Thorsen, And several others. I like the Mac tools the best.

re: who makes the better tools

I do not like snap on ratchets, I like craftsmen. Tho, snap on makes probably the best click style torque wrenches. At my autoshop school, the last Snap on ratchet in the box litterally blew up whail I was using it ( the ratcheting mechanism failed, bigtime ), i wasn't using a monkey bar ( levrage extension, which is 23/4" water pipe, my teacher said that is what happens to most snap on ratchets he has had, so he buys craftsmen ratchets, and snap on sockets and some craftsmen sockets. IR air tools.
