Who seen the new show

Last night. "Hard Shine" with Jimmy Shine? I like to listen to Jimmy speak and he is knowledgeable, BUT....and I repeat BUT....it sounds like it is going to be another American HotRodder with a toned down bit of bickering. I guess last night was the first show, or maybe I missed the first one but J.S. has 5 wannabe builders, 2 females and 3 males and already the one female had to be told to cut her fingernails and she has already bailed. Now what they are working on is a chopped, custom painted Coupe that is in the 6 figure range with a $30,000.00 paint job. And 5 rookies working on it. One female was bringing the exhaust over to the car and Jimmy had to tell her to watch the paint If I was the owner of that car there would not be no rookies around it at all. Let them work on the primed up rides for training. A scratch in 2k primer is way easier and cheaper to fix than the $800.00 an eyedropper paint

I watched the show last night as well. Once again they are making a show for the general public and they think they need some sort of drama. Why would any hot rodder care to see the boss interview the women with the long fingernails and get her to cut them! At least they are promoting shop safety which most of the other shows don't.

Not a lot of auto related advertisers on the show neither. Most of the commercials were for other series on the Discovery Channels.

Is this their replacement for the anti-Christ of hotrodding???

I don't watch TV, but when I did, that type of situation just added to the "drama" to keep viewers happy.

If the owner of the car or the shop owner wanted to make sure nothing bad happened, they would never let a TV crew in the shop. All the portable lighting racks, sound booms, etc, plus people tripping over countless cables and falling against the car.

P/S, this is just me thinking out loud, but anyone who thinks paying 30k for paint is Ok, is either way too rich....or.... ....but then, there are people out there that get yearly bonuses that total way more than a middle class person does in a lifetime of wages & investments.

That's what has me wondering when you click on a post about a rod build; that it could be a "drug this here old unknown body remains out of a swamp and I done builded me a hotrod".....or a rod that supposed to cost several hundred thousand to build. I want to see average cars built with hands, not checkbooks, (nor bailing wire either)

Hard Shine

I saw the show too. I suspect this one is going to be about the weakest of all these shop shows that are on these days. The fingernail thing was just too much to believe!!!

It is on TLC, part of the Discovery group.

Check out this write up by Edmunds. They are calling Jimmy Shine hot rod's new anti hero.

humm, i watched it . it was ok just to much about so cals speed runs and history. it was more like a commerical for the shop.i thought it was unfair to the rookies to bring them in on a near finished car. let them start on a project from the start.
didn't like it as mush as wrecks to riches , or american hot rod." but i couldn't work for boyd or in his shop " I would fire dewayne if it was my shop, i think he causes alot of the problems in that shop.

"Anti hero"
Why does everything these days have to be "Anti" this and "Anti" that?

"Anti Christ of Hotrodding"....................How goes that sound familiar?

I could stomach only 20 minutes of it.
I agree with everyone. It looks like a "reality" show hyped to the next level.
It's part of the Turbo Thursday line-up.

Overhaulin' is cancelled. American HotRod is suppose to be cancelled.
That doesn't leave many shop shows.
I wont be watching this crap, however.

I watched it and had a "hard time" staying with it. The attitude stinks and it's hard to take him seriously. Somewhat similar to the Jesse James chip on the shoulder. I hope he just hasn't found the personality for the camera yet. I'll give it another chance maybe it will get better. Now Foose on the other hand is a nice guy as the people around him. And he is a real car builder. I think a show based around building hotrods would work better with him.

Bummer,I hate to see the Overhaulin show get cancelled. I wanted to get my Firebird Overhauled!

I personally like it I don't think it's all Drama B.S. I think jimmy is not about to sugar coat it and baby them He just wants to show "THERE AREN'T NO FREE RIDES " you got to want it and to build on SOCAL level you got to get it right the first time because of SOCAL has a long standing rep. In his words "IT'S REAL EASY TO WALK OUT THAT DOOR IT'S GETTING IN IT THATS TOUGH" I respect the MAN for pulling NO PUNCHS!!

I like some of the cars that Shine has done, but I think that the age of the audience TLC is trying to cater to is making him a character instead of a real person.

Just another show to give people who don't really know what the hobby is about, the idea that anyone can toss a safe, drivable car together. Lame.

Hey, I caught it and enjoyed it for what it was, a car show. Beat most everything else on the tube today, dancing, living in a house together, thrown on an island, comedy, inventions, yada...yada. The fingernail thing...I ran into the same exact situation with a young female airman years ago in aircraft maintenance. The jet fuel ruined her nails and polish. She cut them, but eventually transferred to a more appropriate career field. I may record and watch the show again next week.
