B Ville camp out

My son lives 200 miles southeast, A couple of years ago he took his Boy Scout group, they had a good time camped at the big turn half way from the freeway to the Salt. The Boy scouts and leaders. in Uniform get in free. SCTA runs the early and late meet. The Utah Salt Flat Racers run The in-between meet. This year he has new scouts that have joined and I'll probably drive the 3-400 miles to go out with them. The Ohio State U. Electric Streamliner Team Spent a lot of time With the Scouts showing them their car and tech Info. The formats, a laid back walk thru the pits, watch, Some teams are frantically trying to get their car fixed and make the next run, others are just waiting their turn and share a lot of info. . go to the starting line and watch the start, or go down to the Mile markers and watch them zoom by;. and nothing sounds sweeter then a flat out hemi at speed.

I'm thinking about it, I've been pretty lame and haven't been for a long time. I live about 1 1/2 - 2 hours away, I'll probably go this year. When is it anyway?

I went last year, it was awesome. ....1,750 miles one way for me.

If I can afford it, I'm going back this year.

Here are the pics from last year

bonneville times

usually 3 meets, scta first, then Usfra, then scta last... check their web sites and Be sure to check when you get close to the time. A thunderstorm can flood the salt and delay or cancel the meet. USFRA has sept 14 to 17 scheduled and may start one day early if enough entrants pre register.

Oh yeah, tent camping on the BLM land was pretty darn nice (and free). Night time temps were very comfortable for sleeping in a sleeping bag.

circle your wagons !

The Boy scouts slept on the ground, Usually no need for a tent. There are no roads, designated camp spots etc, just the mud flats. For safety from someone one returning from the hot spots at Wendover . set up your barriers ice chest. folding chairs. your cars etc. so you won't get ran over. There were no portable toilets at the bend when we were there, The BLM is Starting to require people to bring their own porti-potties or Crapper plastic bags in a lot of areas, Not yet at bonneville, or mabe not enforced.at Bonneville camping.

They had port-a-pottys set up at the bend last year.
