As far as I know it came from consumers and enthusiasts that didn't want to say the 3 syllables of GTO and Goat, is kind of like the letters anyway. Never was used in any official ad from Pontiac. Other than that, I do not know.

I think that's a pretty good assumption.... as far as I remember. Now that I think of it, it seems to me that I remember hearing the nickname Goat being used for Mopars with the ram head thing.

Yeah that's pretty much it.

JimS, you a Galesburg native? I'm halfway between you and the QC. I went to Carl Sandburg JC back in the 70's and we used to cruise Galesburg back then. We would hit 23rd Avenue in Moline on Friday night and Galesburg on Saturday in my '67 "Goat". That was back when the "Little Green Vega" and a gold 427 '69 Vette were the terrors of the streets in Galesburg.

A GTO is a Pontiac not a Mopar.

Thats too bad. I think the Monmouth night is one of the best deals around.

The Gibb Show always has a great turn out for some exotic cars. I did not make it this year either but usually do. I host the website for the show and have scanned all the family racing pictures for Helen Gibb as well.

Gibbs and Mayor Brown are really nice people and its always a good show. Probably wont see more Yenkos, Gibb and Harrell Supercars anywhere else at one time.

Well of course a GTO is a Pontiac, my buddy had one the first year they came out, 1964 as I remember, but they used to call Mopar's Goats because of the Ram.

Well greetings homie! Yes I've been here most all the time since 1943

I didn't go to the Gibb show this year but I did go to the Monmouth cruise and it was fantastic as usual. The guy that put it on in the past thought he could kill it by taking his backing down the road to Macomb and starting a new cruise the same night but it evidently didn't work because there were about 1,000 cars in Monmouth Friday night.... even without the headline cars. Great time to see a bunch of nice cars and see friends from way back. Even saw one of my mentors that I met in 1957 (I was then 14) so that was pretty cool.

You must be somewhere around Orion or Woodhull? One of my closest friends is a body man from Woodhull... Jerry E.

I remember the Vega and the Vette but not very well. Everything from the 70's is a haze as I was drunk and/or eating acid most of the time. What a waste....... but it seemed like the thing to do at the time I guess. Sure missed out on a lot of good hot rodding and pool playing.
