Ya gotta love a guy that hates SBCs because "they are cookie cutters" when he in turn expouses sticking a "cookie cutter Mustang II front end/kit" under the same rods. That dog just does not hunt in our mountains!

I personally love the SBC but then I'm lazy AND cheap. Oh yeah, almost forgot, I'm easy too.

Im impressed Centerline. I could never get the motivation to right an essay in school if my life depended on it, and you wrote one because you hate SBC's.
Im a die hard chevy guy, but it does get kinda boring when you go see an old hotrod and all it is, is a SBC.
If I was building an old hotrod, I would only put a sbc in it if thats what I have laying around. If I have a choice, Im going for the biggest damn engine I can get my hands on!
But if its say a muscle car, or something like that Id stick with the same brand. Just go with a bigger engine. It would seem kinda goofy to see a camaro with a 351W in it.

The original motovation for putting a SBC in rods, they were shaped like a flathead where it counts. So you could put a 283 into a 34 Ford without cutting anything.

centerline,
you've read my mind. i agree 100%. the sbc is boring! i've overheard conversations at rodding events about how lame some guy is for fixing up some other engine for his car & not just going with 350 crate motor! oyu should see the looks i get from some of these young kids when i tell them i'm doing an old 235 or 261 chevy 6. had to explain to this kid the other day what a flathead ford was! i told him it was the SBC of it's day!

I have to agree with Centerline one of the reasons I quit going to car shows is because almost everybody used the same engine. My buddy Craig and I were watching Boyd's show one day and he a Chevy owner said he couldn't understand why have a one of a kind hot rod built and put in a $1,500. Chevy engine in it. He has had enough of it he is now looking for a 60s Corvette and is planning on dropping a International slant 4 in it. I have been a die hard Ford and Mopar guy all my life who has started getting into AMCs since I got my FSJ. For my 53 Binder though I am seriously looking for an old Red Ram Hemi!!

I don't think I fit into this thread.

My 56 ford f-100 is too new! (how often can I say that one?!)

I have a 350/350 sitting at the house from a 72 chevelle.

It will not be going into my truck. Do I have anything against SBCs? No. I just get tired of everything running one no matter what "brand" it is.

I plan on using a 5.0 EFI/AOD in this truck (just a driver-not a show truck). Its only slightly more work, but I have to go buy a donor to get it. Yes, its all ford and just slightly different (in a 56) even though it will be a stock engine.

As you probably have guessed by now, I don't hate SB Chevys, but that is besides the point.

What bothers me about the HEMI, is not the fact that it is probably a great motor, with tons of potential....eg:TF dragsters.......It's just the way that the Chrysler Corperation has this "In your face" advertising, that in my mind is an insult to our intelligence. It's just HEMI, HEMI, HEMI........all over the place.

If those 2 yokels on the commercials are typical MOPAR owners....................Well, never mind......no chance of changing their minds on anything. They don't have minds.

I have to agree with you about their advertising. I guess when you're making cars as ugly as the Charger and your best bet, the Challenger, isn't out yet you do what you have to in order to sell cars.

What I'm really waiting for is NASCAR's approval for Dodge to run the new hemi. That will send Ford and Chevy back to the drawing boards just like it did in '64.

OK, not that I'm a huge Vette fan but a Binder 4 banger in a Vette is just wrong. BUT, an old Red Ram in a Binder, THAT would be cool!

My buddy has a good 347 Pontiac out of a '57 GMC truck I may talk him out of just to do something "different" one of these days. They pulled it out to put a SBC in the truck....... I tried to talk 'em out of it, there wasn't a thing wrong with it and it's PONTIAC so it isn't like you can't get goodies for it but they felt the SB would be "better". JMO but I think they completely ruined that truck by doing that.
