Why Men Don't Write Advice Columns…

Dear Walter,

I hope you can help me here. The other day, I set off for work leaving my husband in the house watching the TV as usual. I hadn't driven more than a mile down the road when the engine conked out and the car shuddered to a halt.

I walked back home to get my husband's help. When I got home I couldn't believe my eyes. He was in our bedroom with the neighbor girl.

I am 32, my husband is 34, and the neighbor girl is 22. We have been married for ten years.

When I confronted him, he broke down and admitted that they had been having an affair for the past six months. I told him to stop or I would leave him.

He was let go from his job six months ago and he says he has been feeling increasingly depressed and worthless. I love him very much, but ever since I gave him the ultimatum he has become increasingly distant. He won't go to counseling and I'm afraid I can't get through to him anymore.

Can you please help?

Sincerely,

Sheila

Dear Sheila:
A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a variety of faults with the engine. Start by checking that there is no debris in the fuel line. If it is clear, check the vacuum pipes and hoses on the intake manifold and also check all grounding wires.

If none of these approaches solves the problem, it could be that the fuel pump itself is faulty, causing low delivery pressure to the carburetor float chamber.

I hope this helps.

Walter

Dear Sheila:
It's really too bad that you married a man, but now you don't want him to act like one. Some men need time after a major life event such as job loss, death of favorite dog, closing of bar, etc to adjust to their new sense of self and reaffirm what is left of their life.. You have cut that time short, demanding that he adjust without the proper preparation, and now he resents you for it..I'll have to say you deserve it. You do have some recourse though, you can buy him a bass boat and a motorhome and suggest that he starts practicing for his new career, as a bass tournament fisherman, or get him a touring motorcycle, and give him a few months to take a nice ride through several countries to help clear his head, or a new master mechanics set of snap on tools, and a brookville roadster 32 roadster kit as a theraputic aid....

Of course, if you lighten up a little it would help him a great deal...

I suggest that if you truly love him, (you said so),you look up "menage a trois" in the dictionary..Then get some wine, and low fat snacks and invite the 22 year old neighbor girl over to discuss some possible solutions to your problem. You may find your opinion of their relationship changes when you see them interact. .

I also suggest that you plan some trips out of town for yourself, making sure your husband knows your depart/arrive schedule...No surprises... men need stability, and you'll see his mind will be much more at ease when you come home.

I further suggest that you see a counseler, as you are very vunerable at this point in your relationship...I may have some openings and think I could fit you into my schedule, but before I check, please send your visa card # and a recent full length picture of yourself ...

I hope this helps.
