Why mix clear with single stage urethane

Why do some people add clear to their single stage paint during the final topcoats of paint? Particularly with a black paint job?

I adds depth, try a test panel for yourself. Also it will have a different shine being that there's less exposed pigment.

Also, most if not all SSUs will die back if buffed as fast as you want to buff them. I'm doing an SSU repair with a blend right now. But it must be ready for the big show tomorrow afternoon meaning I have to buff it tomorrow morning. So I'll mix some clear in the final coat or two. That will stop the die back and make the blend easier. If I had 2 days, I'd probably just make the repairs with straight SSU as it would buff fine then. I might even try some speed clear and buff it tonight. Never done that yet though.
