Why not bend windshield instead of V-butt?

Anyone had any experience bending a windshield? They offer 1 piece bent windshields instead of the typical V-butt and I'm wondering what is required to do this. I'd assume they use 2 hot pipes and sandwich the center of the glass. Just gotta make sure you dont' go so hot the laminate peels, and that it's hot enough to make the glass not crack.

Let me put it this way, FORGET IT. You are NOT going to bend glass, period. Just buy the glass or butt it. Personally, (sorry if I offend anyone running this glass) but I think the bend glass that replaces a two piece windshield looks like crap.

Got a good way to mock up a unit to have the shop cut 2 pieces to v-butt? Just tryin to figure out all the options without going broke. Oh wait... I'm not just broke... I'm $80,000 in debt *college

Yeah, I thihk two piece jobs look better also. As for a way to mock it up, I've never did it, but my first guess would be make mock up pieces out of either sheetmetal.....cardboard, or posterboad.

i've done both and it's just personal preference. on a vbutt i make patterns with lexan so i can save them. 1/8 Masonite works well. the vbut need to be well finished. don't just square it off or you'll have a large gap outside. " fit it " then polish the edges nice and the vbutt will all but disappear. i use lexell tub and tile seal. it drys crystal clear and does not turn milky like clear silicone.
