Wife's Birthday or 1948 Chevy 2-door

Tomorrow is my wife's birthday and she is taking the day off. She asked me what I was doing tomorrow and she seemed a little disappointed when I told her that I intended to attend an auction that has a 1948 Chevy 2-door sedan no motor, no transmission and a clear title. I thought that I would take her and the kids to brunch in the morning and then go to the auction. Does that sound fair or should I spend the whole day with her? I really want to see what that Chevy brings.

I think that would be up to your wife. I think you have your answer when you mentioned she seemed a little disappointed. So spend the day with her -- take her to the auction with you!

I know that if I were in your shoes, I'd spend the day with my wife only to find out the car went dirt cheap at the auction. Or worse yet, I'd go to the auction without her (regardless of how she felt) and I'd be a dollar short of buying it.

Crash,

What have you done over the past years, did you spend time with her on her birthday? Probally to many days you had to work and couldn't take the time to tell her she is special. She does put up with you everyday right?

It all goes on your relationship. Are you going to get the third degree for the next year for not taking the day with her?

I would do the brunch, invite her to join you at the auction and then surprise her with a special evening dinner/movie drive to watch the sun go down or something you know she would really like to do and hasn't done in a while. You both win that way.

Go to the auction with her at your side, buy the Chebby as a birthday gift for her then take her out to dinner, dance and a moonlight walk, she will love you big time. But..... what the hey if she doesn't, you still have a project car to keep you warm. I am partial to the '48 2 dr especially the Fleetline Aerosedan.

Dutch,

The kids have a 4H meeting tomorrow evening with a hayride and a bonfire so that is why I figured brunch would be a good thing. I would like to take her to the auction and she enjoys going to them when she has time. The auction is an hour away and the car is set to sell at 1:00 so it is possible for her to go if she wants to.

bow tie,

I once bought her a motorcycle for her birthday and you can guess how that went.

this 48 is listed as a Stylemaster in the sale bill.

Ahhh,Grasshopper. You have a decision to make that I would not want to make.My wife's birthday is in a few weeks and I was just informed that she got tickets to some "culture" event on the riverfront on her birthday.I thought her mom would enjoy the tickets more than I would. She reminded me quickly that I would enjoy the ticket more than her mother!

Yes dear.

Good luck my friend.

Yeah, I would be.

And now I will have to go finish baking a cake that my daughter started before she went to sleep. That cake will surprise my wife.

Crash,

Make sure you only put one candle and tell her because she is number one that she gets her wish.

Hope you have more luck with the cake than I. Mine always sink in the middle.

I hope it doesn't sink in the middle, I guess that I will find out in about 30 minutes. If it sinks can I fill it up with extra frosting?

Jeez, that's rough. My husband and I are just weird. We spend anniversaries at the drag strip, and most birthdays have something to do with Summit Racing. If it was me, I'd say "Let's go" to the auction. However, since she seems disappointed, you need to find out if she was looking forward to spending her b-day with you. The brunch idea sounds nice, because at least you're making an effort to make it special. But does she want more?

****This just in****

My husband has a take on it. He says you should wake up, and say "Honey, I changed my mind. I can always replace the '48 Chevy, but I could never in a million years replace you". Following that buttery statement, he says you should have a nice romantic dinner (just the two of you.........no kids, cuz we know how that business goes), and spend a beautiful evening together, and that way, years down the road you won't look back on this day and wish you'd done things differently.

See why I picked him?

Let us know what you decide, and wish wifey a happy b-day from Mr. and Mrs. Carbed95GT.
