Post wife's die hard beretta

Here's one that recently has me in a tied fit,my wife's car,94 chevy beretta has developed a mind of it's own. the problem is,at times the headlights will dim,not alot though, and the speedometer acts like an tachometer being erratic and stock sound system LED readout goes out,but no "service engine" light comes on,it does work properly(so far)is there a nome under the hood who likes pulling pranks on me? Thanks Guys....

Check all your grounding points first for bad contacts and corrosion. Also check all the connectors under the hood for the same, considering your vehicles age it is ripe for these problems to happen.

That should get you started.

Same *******,different day;Hey ya guys,I did the checks on ground points and alls well there. Is there a possible chance that the alternator is not putting enough output power at idle speed to keep the sensors readings inline? It became a choice between battery and alternator, price difference...48.00 for battery....190.00 for alternator.Would a bench test show the output at idle rather than at full speed which i believe is how they do test them? Thanks

God help you if it is a harness problem, I would definetly check the output of the ALT and the battery first. How about the fuses? Seen a few of those over the years that look fine on the outside but fail a continuity test...intermittently. Since this all seems dash related I would narrow the focus down to these components, dash clusters are not made the way they used to be either. You might want to go over every exposed wire in the engine compartment and check for wires with abraded insulation and connectors that might have corrosion on the contact faces, a few ohms here and there adds up quickly.

Does it do it over railroad tracks? A wiggle test of the harness might be in order too.

I will pray for your soul.

Had a simular problem with a Ford work truck.
It turned out to be that -neg- cable looked fine ,but from the factor they also grounded the body midway down the same cable with a clamp and a metal screw . Screw rusted out with age , and only grounded some times. 5 minute fix =2 weeks of same problem scratching my head.
CRAIG

Glad you found your problem, you don't have to stand in the corner...but we do need someone to mix drinks? Do you know how to make a gin and tonic?

I like mine with lots of gin a twist of lemon and you can just stand the tonic bottle near the glass for looks, fools the wife. :p
