Will a 4.00 inch stroke fit in a stock 400 chevy block?

I was looking through the rotating assemblies in Summits catalog and saw a 4.125 inch bore and 4.00 inch stroke kit making a 427 small block. My question is can you clearence a 400 for the 4.00 inch stroke or do you need to use the World block for it?

I think you can but you must use a small base circle cam... I think the original 434`s were done by using a factory GM block but also with an aftermarket block a SBC 454 or even have heard of a 500cui SBC but very exotic...

You can do it and we have quite a few times. A later model 509 block with a short fill and lots of grinding on the Bridgeport. Splayed main caps as well. We have never used a Summit kit to do this though. We will use either a good Scat crank, Lunati or Callies.

Of course the block is poked, prodded, magged, sonic checked, pressure tested prior to all this cubic dollar outlay.

I'd frown on doing it if you can swing for an aftermarket block. It's a hundred times better as a foundation and in the end not that much more money.

The kit was in Summit but it was made by World. Summits kits dont offer a 4.00 inch stroke for a small block that I an find.
