the trans will bolt up to the block as the bolt pattern is almost identical but, it will not work.you need the proper year case for the 98. the difference is in the front of the trans at the bell housing (98-up is a bolt up bell housing), and the converter.

the 98 wouldnt work porperly either the fisrt few yrs they changes solenoid restances 97 up to 05 will work with out a problem i think the ck trucks still had a 1 pices case in 98 but ive seen 5.7 and 5.o with the removable bell housing u need a 96 unit or you origional unit rebuilt
93-94 will only work in those yrs
95 will only work in a 95
96 will only work in a 96
97 up 5.0 and 5.7 will work in a 97 up
4.8 and 5.3 will not work on a 5.0 or 5.7
