When I was in HS, the local king of the street had a custom '51 Chevy, hugger orange, with a full on 409/4 speed in it. (Beautiful car but within 6 months the stock frame was twisted.) I imagine the physical dimensions are near the same.

If you want a big block in a stock frame 51 chevy you will have major issues even if the car is caged to prevent it from twisting it still will over power the stock mounting points in the stock frame. Bbc means new frame suspension rear end and brakes. Dont forget wheels and tires to match the newer big brakes.

If the bbc is weak then the weight is not worth the swap issues.

But yes you can use a front mount plate if all else fails or custom mounts made from 1/4" plate to make it fit. Pretty mich make any engine fit from chevy since they are all about the same width on the bottom not exactly but in general they are all with in five inches of the sbc. Give or take. Real question will be how far back and how low in the frame can you make it set. If your willing to make a custom trans tunnel and firewall changes you can probably get it to fit real nice. But with just bolt in swap its not going to work well. It would be a full custom build out might as well sort it properly if the big block is the goal. TV builds usally use 20k worth of off the shelf suspension frame and brakes.

Yep, I'd be thinkin' front and rear clips, retaining the 1/3 of the frame that's under the passenger compartment. A 6-point rollbar could be installed with the B-bar hidden by the side post. That would stiffen the car up considerably.
