will bbc427 pistons fit 454
help? I have a set of trw 427 .60 over pistons pt# L2308af .060,can anyone tell me if they will work in a 454 stock cranck and rod size. If so will piston and head clearance be an issue using a 119cc head with 2.22/1.88 valves ? piston specs dome shape 585 volume .50. also whats the max lift on flat roller ? looking to biuld 468 thanks alot, Aaron 04-29-2012 08:21 PM

Because of the stroke difference, they will not work. The pin is lower in the piston. When used with 454 crank and rods. The pistons will stik out of the block.

427 and 454's used the same block, but differnt stroke crankshafts, the 427 used a 3.76 stroke and the 454 used a 4" stroke crankshaft, so the compression height on a piston for a 427 depending on manufacture will be 1.765-1.767 and the 454 piston used a compression height of 1.645 depending on manufacture all using a 6.135 rod.. the tall deck BBC are different, sorry i dont know off hand the specs on them with rods and piston compression heights, never look at them to much...but I hope this helps ya a bit

The blocks have the same dimensions. The 427 crank(3.76 stroke) will work as long as you use the pistons for the 427. The 454 crank (4.00 stroke) will require the 454 pistons. The rods are the same. If you used different length rods then you would have to use the right pistons for the custom rod length.
