Will chevy 305 HO heads fit on a 350?

Ive searched the threads but I couldnt find what i was looking for. I have an 86 IROC Z-28 camaro. It has the HO heads. I will be purchasing a 350 short block. I know that the 305 and the 350 are pretty much the same block with different bore and stroke. Will the 305 HO heads fit on the 350? Would it be smart to put those on if they do fit? Please help! Thanks, Jim

all generation 1 small block heads are interchangeable. The 305 heads will work on the 350, however, the 305 heads have small 57cc - 60cc chambers which will raise the compression ratio on a 350 quite a bit, depending on what piston, possibly too much. they also have small 1.84 intake valves, which will give a 350 killer out of the hole power, but will lack upper RPM power, you`ll feel the power drop off past 4000 RPM. If your 350 has dish top pistons the compression ratio should be close to 10:1 and that will survive on pump gas, if it has flat tops then it might be a bit too far on the high side and the engine will detonate itself too death.

305 heads don't flow enough to put on a 350.

305-350

There was an article in the super chevy a while back that discussed this. No it does not flow as much and some machine work on the chambers need to be done to prevent detonation. it will raise compression and work well.

What issue was that article in? A close guess would help narrow down the search. Dan
