will this howard cam work for my combo?

68 chevelle malibu
327 .40 over
670 holley vac secondaries
hooker headers
hei distributor
cast iron 68 heads gm with 2.02's ported and polished and deshrouding
stock 10 bolt highway gears I assuming, not sure on gearing
th350 trans with a 2000 stall converter
245 60 r 15 front tires

Will this camshaft work for my combination, I would like something with some good low end torque and a nice slight lopey sound, good idle quality with a good vaccum for brake booster for disc brakes.

Chev SB
Application: Max Factory
RPM Range: 2000-5600
Lift: .447/.447
Adv. Duration: 290/290
Duration @ .050": 223/223
Lobe Sep. Angle: 112
Recommended Valve Springs: 98214
Nice idle, near duplicate of Chev 325HP/327 cam (GM #3863151)

The cam will work fine for your purposes. The only thing I see wrong is you don`t know the gearing, the rear gears will dictate how your combo performs. If you gave it some 3.50:1 gears It would work nicely.
Make sure you match the valve springs to the cam.
I wouldn`t use this cam, but that`s just me, but it will work for what you want to do.

Even so I don`t like to pick cams for others as I`m conservative, I will say that cams today such as the voodoo and extreme energy grinds are far better than the grinds of old. This cam I found on Lunati`s site in the Voodoo line looks good.

It should have a fairly choppy idle. I`m sure it should have plenty enough vacuum for power brakes. However, contacting Lunati and asking is a good idea. Just call me DV, it`s easier.

For "Hiway gears" and a 2000 stall find a cam with 208 to 218 @.050 duration.

The cam you are looking at wants a bit of a converter and some gear to work best . Up to a 3000 stall and 4.10's for strong street performance.

For the gears and converter you got you'd be better off with a bit smaller duration cam. Like a Comp dual energy 265DEH-10 or similar.

211in -221ex @.050 .442-.465 110 LSA. Lunati and Howard have similar cams.

You cannot have a rough idle and good vacuum, pick one.

you can use manual brakes or hydro-assist if you don't have enough vacuum. Most engines I build end up requiring that- its no big deal.
