will only go into reverse
I have a turbo 350 behind a 350 v-8 in my 34 Pontiac. I don;t know what it came out of but it only has reverse and won't go into park. There is some kind of a diaphragm located at rear of tranny on pass. side. So before I pull tranny I would like to know what is it for??

No....tranny will not go into any other gear.....I also just noticed that vac. line from modulator to intake has a big hole.....will that affect it?

no and yes...but thats a different scenerio.....but if your shifter won't shift thru the ranges.....disconnect it at the trans,and try shifting it by hand at the trans,and see if it goes thru the ranges that way....and check back

ok...
 .. and did it shift into all the ranges???....or was it binding when you tried to turn the selector on the trans?

I disconnected linkage at trans and it still won't go beyond reverse. When I first installed tranny I had everything except park. The car has never been on the road with this tranny installed (am getting near the finish line on a five year build on the 34) Discovered today that vac. modulator line had a hole in it...will repair tomorrow.

To get the linkage working you're gonna have to pull the pan...pull the filter..and look at the inside linkage lever next to where it goes thru the trans...you will most likely see a backed out 5/16 bolt that is stopping your linkage from working....rotate the linkage,you'll see it hitting the head of the bolt....grab a 1/2'' wrench and screw it back in and snug it up.
