Will open ended gears work on an eaton posi unit?

1.Will open ended gears work on an eaton posi unit?As long as they are the same spline count?I need to get a new set of gears.I decided 3.36 are right for me.I've been looking at richmond 3.36 but they are around $300.I found a guy who has a set of original 3.36 28 spline for my 8.2.He wants $60. 2.Is it a bad move to put these gears with my new posi? Thanks bm

1. I do not know what you mean about the open ended gears?

2. I put in a set of used gears in my new rear setup, everything else was new, bearings, axles, shims, lube, posi lube, etc. As long as you know they were broken in properly, no chips, cracks, burnt teeth, it should not be any problem.

1. Yes the posi will go in your open rear.

2. If the used gears arent worn much, which should be decided my the guy who's setting the rear up for you, use them

Your 300.00 price tag sounds way off, Summit has the Richmond 3.36's for $210.00.

ok. No, they are the same ring and pinion, and that would be a steal at $60, as long as they are broken in properly. I love mine, set up real quite, no whine, clunking, etc. I hope you get the same results. Good luck.

I have installed many used ring and pinion sets. More often than not it is hard to get the contact pattern exactly where I like to see it with the prescibed backlash. Some were far enough off to be a little noisy but seemed work fine anyway. I couldn't testify to longevity though.
