will this tach work with HEI?

Getting ready to break in rebuilt sbc 350 motor but I don't have a tach. I have an old Peerless electronic engine analyser that has a built in tach. The hookup for the tach function is this: put inductive pickup clamp on spark plug wire and attach clamp's ground wire to engine ground; attach positive wire from tester to coil negative terminal and attach tester's ground wire to engine ground.

Can I attach the tester's positive wire to the HEI TACH terminal in place of the coil neg terminal (the coil is in the HEI distributor) and keep the rest the same and have the tach function work?
