Yeah, even the Edelbrock catalog lists the "old" style as being '55-'86 (for cast iron, '87-up for OEM aluminum heads) and '87-'95 as the newer style intake bolts (and even this may not be entirely correct- I seem to recall some post-'96 engines having non-Vortec heads in some applications), so there were likely both used during '86.

ok now just got off the phone with my buddy. He says his dad has a universal intake from edelbrock. He is going to check on that for me. I looked on edelbrock.com and what I found is 86& earlier is one style and 87-95 is another, so I can find some heads off of a 305. As long as its 87 and newer right? Then my intake will just bolt right up no prob and it wont mess with the compression. ???? thanks for all the help I feel like Im getting somewhere.
