Will a Z gate shifter work with manual vlv body?

Hey all-
My brother had a very nice S-10 V8 truck some years ago, and I seem to remember him having the Z-gate B&M shifter. I now have a v8 S10, and I also have the Z-gate, BUT my trans has a rev/ man valve body. On B&M's catalog it says "cannot be used with reverse pattern manual valve body"... This may be a dumb question, but- any ideas why it can't??

So... What's the deal- Am I gonna have to get another shifter? Has anyone ever tried using the Z-gate shifter with a rev pattern/ man valve body?

I'd rather have a ratchet shifter, but funds are tight right now (wedding & honeymoon coming up). I was surprised at how expensive a dang shifter is!

Thanks for any input or advice!

Nooj

I think you have to pull up the pin to pull it back right? That would be hard to bang out the gears if you have the pin up and the gate unlocked. Potential to over shift when pulling back.
I use the hurst pro matic 2. Its same as pro-matic but has a 15" handle for pickups. I run it in a 80 C-10. Its mated up to a TCI rev manual valve body.
I have only used it a few times so I cannot speak to it's longevity, but it seems to be built pretty well.
