Willys jeep - rebuild

Although this isn't a "hotrod" I recently acquired a 50's vintage willys jeep free courtesy of a farmer who wanted it removed from his cattle pasture. It needs sum MAJOR work and the frame is barely salvageable, However these jeeps are mechanically simple and shouldn't be all that bad to patch back together. I was just curious if anyone has ever had any experience with these things and if anyone has any recourses they be willing to share to acquire re-pro parts ext. I would also like to make a Journal of this project. Thanx.

Good luck! I rebuilt a willys military jeep for a gentelman a few years ago and I had an extremely hard time finding parts. But I do remember one web page that helped me. WWW.thejeepdoctor.com or something like that. Sorry I couldnt be of any more help.

I was surprised to see that the good old JC Whitney catalog has quite a few parts for these old Jeeps - to include complete fiberglass bodies if you want to go that route. Check it out.

Check out WillysTech They have links and experience with many parts suppliers, as well as vast tech archives and a used parts/vehicle board.

I'm working on a '49 Jeepster with a L134 "Go Devil" flathead as my current project. Its not mine but for a customer (I'm a retired tech working at home). This Jeepster is in excellent condition but has serious smoke from the engine. I tore it down to discover that someone had bored it .030 over but put the original pistons back in. I'm rebuilding the engine but its not cheap. I had a very good local machinist do the machine work on the engine which came to $572. The parts I got from Northstar Willys (Dassel Mn.) came to $556. Not cheap as a sbc but reasonable and they have everything in stock. Go to their website and look at their catalog. I've got a lot of information from the knowledgebase at willystech as previously mentioned by oldtin. If it has the original engine L134 or F134 that could be more valuable than the rest of the parts together if it is rebuildable. Those blocks are getting very hard to find. I hope to finish the job this week.

Have you looked for in local old Army vehicle depots. I don't know about Ohio, but here in Idaho there are like 4 different old army depots where i live. one can get anything there. even helicopters if, you of course, have deep enough pockets. These places have willys jeeps as far as the eye can see. I guess that really isn't much help to you.

I redid an old 46 Willy's cj2 before I got the old 38 DeSoto. Mainly hade the engine rebuilt and I did some rewiring. The body was in decent shape and it had a new rag top on it when I bought it. Was fun but extremely slow on the highway.
