Windage tray clearance
How much clearance should there be between the crankshaft and a windage tray?
The tray is on a 351M/400 with a 7qt oil pan. There is a small amount of clearance, but I am not sure if it is enough. Greg

WINDAGE TRAY INSTALL KIT
Required to properly mount the tray assembly. Adjustable mounting position allows the tray to work at its maximum potential by being as close as possible to the rotating assembly (min.100") and to avoid any unnecessary interference with the oil pan. Install with the 7/16" nuts torqued to 65 ft./lbs or 1/2" to 85 ft/lbs using oil, and the 3/8" nuts torqued to 35 ft./lbs.

Thanks, I used a mounting kit from Canton and it had 1/2" nuts on the top and specified 20 ft/lbs and I torqued the main caps #2 & 4 to 105 ft/lbs per the engine specs. Anyway .100" is pretty close and I am not that close.

I couldn't get my 400s windage tray that close either. I just got it as close as I could.
