windage tray woes

I recently built a 530 HP motor and forgot to notch the windage tray for my dipstick. My dipstick went in. But I am only assuming that it was rubbing the windage tray and broke off. I am taking the motor out this weekend to get the tray notched. This is a very straight forward fix. But I thought I would ask if anyone had suggestions on what to look for when I do notch the windage tray. I have a 1988 SBC Block. I was using a Lockar Dipstick that is now 3 inches to short...... ( Ha Ha.. )

Thanks.......

my dipstick broke off also, and I don`t have a windage tray. just remove the pan, install the stick, see if it`s hitting anything, most trays are notched for the dipstick but yours may just need adjusted slightly. if nothings hitting and all appears normal, it was just a rare case of the stick breaking.

You can make a lower dipstick tube to go around the tray with 3/8 tubing i have done this many times. If you notch the tray you sill need the lower tube to keep the dipstick out of the crank.
