window rolls down when you turn off car

boss wants me to mess with it for the first part of the morning. Says it works normally but rolls down when you shut off the car. Think this is a short? I'm not sure what that could be..

Sounds like it may need a priest instead of a mechanic.... JK i would check the control switch first..not sure what type of car/truck it is but it does sound like a short of secondary source of power from somewhere else

Need to know make - model- year.
Chances are you will need a GOOD scanner .
Many newer cars have door modules that control window and drivers seat , mirror , memory function. Could be a switch problem or a wiring problem or a memory circuit malfunction in the door module etc. Earlier cars used an "express" module that rolls the window down by touching the window switch to the down posistion, then rolling the window completly down.Between the retained accesory power function operating normally and a defective switch or express module , this could be the cause. Does it have RAP ( retained accesory power) ? If so try opening the door before shutting off the car to see if the problem ceases. That would help to indicate wich direction to look.

That's a good question. I can't recall. I'd say not cause it would seem it haves a factory one.

not sure if it has RAP. I didn't notice any Tupac Cd's in the car, kidding.
so if it happens with the door open what would that indicate? Btw, thanks for the response, you really sound like you know what you're talking about. Much beyond my comprehension in electronics.

Check for blown fuses. Could be when you turn the car off something is back feeding through the window control circuit and activating the window. I have seen some strange issues. Had a Cadillac that the interior lights would come on at different times due to a blown fuse for something else.

Had another thought, on most cars when you shut the key off it unlocks the doors. It is possible that they are run but the same module or share common wiring in the door. You may want to look for shorted or broken wires in the boot between the door and the body or in the door. Could also be the switch module is internally shorted

Some of the after market alarms have that feature, hold the lock button for more than 4 sec and the windows roll down. Some factory systms do the same thing..... intent was to allow the heat to escape while you were walking across the parking lot etc...... I'd look up the features avail on a Lexus for that year etc.... and I'd search up under the dash area for a brain box ....

If it happens with the door open, then it isnt related to Retained accesory power. It is quite possible that the drivers door window express module is faulty. I would check for a couple bare wires in the umbilical from the door to the A pillar Jamb. ( the flex for the wiring from the door to the car)
You will have to pull the kick panel to get the harness unfastened, to get some slack in the wiring and to pull the convoluted flex from around the wiring( the accordian looking thing that protects the wiring between the door and body )
Sounds more like a wiring problem than a defective module, but a module could be in play here.

Bad switch

Probably the remote up and down switch bad, or you can try changing out the FOB battery i have seen others do what you have described and the battery needed changing. JMO

Reprogramming door module

We used to have similar problems with sunroofs on lexus' and such. Some times it was a simple reprogramming that fixed it.
It could be that the door module needs to be reprogrammed.I just dont recall if a 2000 lexus needs that for the window, but I do remember that is a common problem with the sunroofs,
Before you tear into it, try running the window down and holding the switch in the down posistion 5 seconds after the window bottoms out, then raise the window and continue holding the switch up for 5 seconds after the window is at the top. IIRC this is what we used to do.and it usually fixed the trouble.
Nissans are similar but to do them the door panel has to come off, but they do display similar issues when they malfunction
It has been 3 years since I worked at the auto auction, so sometimes I dont recall this stuff as easily as it was yesterday.LOL
