windows will not come down

my dad decided to buy a 78 De Ville convertible (i don't know why, its nice, but not his style?) anyways, i got the top to come down but i couldn't get any of the windows to come down. i checked the switch's for 12V and it was OK. anyone know where i can get electrical diagrams or some sort of manual that would help. im going to try to take out the door panel to see if i can see something wrong. el helpo porfavor

ill try to post pictures of this monster if i have time later this week.

windows

if you get the door panel off and you have a test light. remove the connector from the door motor. when you operate the window switch you should get power at the connector for both up and down position.if you do reconnect the motor and operate the window switch, while tapping on the motor or the metal that the motor is attached to. some times you can get them to work temporary. this is not a perminate fix. if you have a rubber hammer you can wack it hard.if it works you will need new door motors. now if there is not any power at the connector you may have bad window switch's. this will take some trouble shooting which is kind of hard over the internet. a test light is easer to use that a volt meter, but you can test the correct voltage at the connector with a volt meter...

Are you sure its a '78 Deville convertible?

My recollection was that the last of the GM convertibles rolled off the line in '75, with the Eldorado convertible continuing until '76, then no convertibles until the '80s.

Don't mean to be picky about the details, but if it really is a '78, then it may be a custom chop and the info could change from what a stock setup would be.

Schematic

Doc here,

Here you go...

........................................................

I suggest you look at the power window cutoff switch first for power, If that's good look at the reverser wires at the master switch, be sure the center wiper has power and or grounds to them.

Does the motor attempt to run in the up position? If so it's the reverser wires at the master...

Saw no reference to a Convert in my docs for 78, so you might be off, anyway this is a diagram for a 78 deville and eldo..they should be the same window wise....
