Windshield Wiper Question

When I turn the wipers off on my 2000 Silverado they go all the way down then pop back up a couple inches or so. I can get out and push them back down to the lowest position but the next time I use them they do the same thing.

What causes this and how can I fix it?

Does the ws wiper sweep normally during it's operation and only mess up when you shut the switch? When you turn the switch on again does the wiper sweep down through the rest of its normal sweep and then continue to wipe normally? does it stop at random places?

If so, then it sounds like the park position contact is messed up. I don't know if it got loose of its position, and is causing the motor to park in the incorrect place or if the little contact ring moved around.

I don't know if you can adjust it without taking the motor assembly apart.

I'd also check the lever arm that comes out of the wiper motor to see if it got loose.

A lot of help that is...huh?

The wipers sweep normally. When I shut them off or they are in intermittent mode they drop down then pop before they stop. When I turn them on or they sweep again they start right where they stopped. They do not drop down before sweeping and they stop in the same place every time.

I'll have to see how accessible the components are to inspect. I don't recall seeing the wiper arm from under the hood. I hope it's not buried.

Does that truck have wipers that hide under the cowl when you park them?

If so , it's more likely that your park mechanism is messed up or the park power wire is open.

I'm kind of guessing, I never had one of the new ones to play with.

It does not have the wipers that hide themselves. They're just supposed to go down and lay roughly parallel with the hood line like good old fashioned wipers do. Mine just happen to pop back up a little bit.

If you ignore the other obvious problems in this picture you can see one of the wipers and how it sticks up just a little bit. The passenger side wiper is much more noticeable than the drivers wiper.

Do you think the meteor that hit your windshield could have bent the linkage under the cowl when it rebounded?

Nice star. you could polish that out with some crest toothpaste....if that don't do it, JC whitney sells that superglue with a suction cup kit that'll fix that right up

JK...

It was like that before the meteor impact.

The toothpaste and suction cup may come in handy on the dent that is still in the hood though. Darn those drunk vandals that can't leave other peoples things alone.
