My father has a 2000 Chevy Impala. The windshield wipers work when the car is off, but when he turns it on the wipers won't work. Any ideas on what is wrong and how to fix it?

Try looking under dash to see if someone tried to hot wire the car, around the steering column both wire lumes are in the same area, regardless there should not be power to the wiper circuit with the key in the off position, also find out or if you know, Did the wipers always return to "Home" when the KEY is turned off? if yes then that maybe where something is wrong,if no and they stop where there at, it could be a short or something fixed wrong, Did this just start?

Thank you for your quick response. Actually, I guess the problem is that the wipers work when the key is at accessory, but not when the engine is running. Any thoughts?

Sounds like an ignition switch problem to me.

Is that the ONLY item that is dead in "Run"? The 97' to 00' Schematic Shows a straight run to the Buss from the Wiper Via a 25 amp fuse, with no Stops..and THAT Buss is switched (By Ignition Power) It SHOULD not care if it is in ACC or RUN.

You may need to check other items for operation with the Key on, on that same Buss.
