Question windsor defect?

hey people, i have my 351 on the stand stripped down to the bare block and am in the process of cleaning it up. i was showing my friend and he noticed a small hole in the lifter galley. so i examined it more closely and now i wonder if it's even supposed to be there. looking from the front of the block, it's just left of the distributor and about one half of an inch up from the valley floor and the same distance from the lifter bore. it doesn't look like it was cast there, and has a rough un-even oval shape to it about the size of a smartie. i looked in my manuals but can't find any pictures of the valley from that angle. i was wondering if this hole was made after the block was cast? maybe it is perfectly normal except that it is so sloppy. anyone see this before? thanks in advance.
Les

Although you didn't post a picture, what I sespect you are looking at is the deain back hole for oil that goes to the cam gear, they are usually smooth since they usually have xcasting slag that's knocked out. It is these areas that get the work when a block is de-burred, I'd recommend doing it while the engine is down,

My 302 looked the same way. I cleaned it up with the Dremel during block prep.
