Hi guys new to the site but I have been following for a while. I just bought a 65 chevy stepside for my girl but the gas guage and speedo do not work. I currently have her checking the gas with a stick lol. I have been searching but cant find a wiring diagram for the gas gauge. Can anyone out there help me please.

Hi
Welcome to Hotrodders.com Glad to have you with us

Have you checked your sending unit to verify that it's good? Take an ohm meter and check the resistance from full to empty. It should be 0 to 30 ohms. If it checks out then you need a new gage. The tank's still behind the seat right?

You will have to remove the headlight switch. Push the little spring loaded button on the back. Then pull out the shaft. The wiper switch is easier and also the ignition switch. If you have a choke remove it and remove the wire for the lighter. And if you have an oil gage you have to take the feed line off as well.
Now look at how the speedo cable is held in with that clip thing push on it & the cable will pull out.

choke

Ok i have the headlight switch, ignition and ligheter out, but for the life of me I cant take the choke off. I took the nut off the back of the choke and I can pull the cable up but not back off. How do I take off the knob?

the one i took off has a nut behind the bezel and in front its the knob, then the shaft that goes into the chrome peice with the threaded peice where the nut goes from the back. I tried to take that chrome peice out but It just spins..Doesnt the knob have to come off?

IIRC there's a small set screw holding the knob on for the choke. If no set screw, the knob should unscrew.
