Wiring Harness

I have a 1979 chevrolet 1/2 ton silverado
the guy that had it before me really butchered the stereo wiring,
so i went and picked up a new wiring harness for it, and a deck, 6X9s etc,
but i cant figure out where the harness plugs into? is it just above the fuse box? or where. Some help would be appreciated, thanks.

I don't recall the stereo wires on my 76 or 79 Chevy pickups "plugging in" anywhere.

You'll need a wiring diagram to figure it out.

What you probably grabbed was a harness to hook an aftermarket deck into the stock stereo harness. You will have to get the stock wiring diagram to find which colour wire does what for stock.

There should be a grey, yellow and black wire.
Black is for ground of course and the yellow and grey will be for key on power and headlights on power. Just take a tester to figure out which is which.

The stock 3-wire plug should be just hanging up under the dash near the radio. You can usually look up under the dash and see it. You will have to run all the speaker wiring separately, unless your truck had the stereo radio option. Even if it had the option, the speaker wires are probably fairly small gauge.
