Well I look at time =$$$ . If I have to spend an hour trying to figure out how something is supposed to be wired together, (I don't know everything) because it doesn't fit the instructions or my knowledge, who pays for it?? Ya I can soak up some time for a learing experience but sometimes the experience tells me I'll never do it again. Now when the customer had brought me this POS what do I tell him??......should have listened to me?? The start the clock running??? Not on my spread sheet. We then sit down and negotiate the time and the bill. Everyone knows what is being done and why.

I can say this for Painless (I don't get paybacks from them) not even a better deal, if it's not in the instruction book their phone number is. A quick call gets you the right answer. Haven't got the book?? Go on line and the full manual is there as well as all of their other manuals plus the phone number. Sure is nice to be able to toss the book in the glove box for when you need it on a dark night. Nice to be able to add a few notes as you install the kit so the customer knows how things are installed.

I checked a couple other wiring mfg and none I'm aware of have this. What's to hide anyway??

I've even given my Painess books to other guys so they can try and sort things out.

Well after reading this very interesting thread I would like to put a couple of things out there. And this goes for EVERYONE! There are times that no one will be able to have the answer. That is just the way it is. Tech. support has go be how far the guy or gal on the phone is willing to go to help you! I've called companies for tech. support before and basically been given the "Its yours and its your problem to deal with" line or something close enough to that. I've built my own harnesses when I first started building cars about 18 years ago. Yes I was about 11 back then! Quality is in the eye of the beholder. As you have probably seen on here there are some people that love one harness and the next guy thinks that harness is junk. Every manufacturer can have a defect or a production error. Hey if its being built by hand it can and WILL happen at one point in time or another. No one is beyond that one! But its what they do to fix the problem in a timely manor. I work tech. support for Painless. I have not used or even seen some of the harnesses out there. So I will not bad mouth them or anyone for that matter. But when someone asks me what I think about this harness or that one. I will tell them everything that I have heard. I've helped people with technical problems with "the other guys" harnesses on several occasions. Why? Because if the company that made it won't help then who is going to? I do what I do because I love it. Its a challenge and it is something that I'm good at. Do I have all the answers? No I most certainly don't. But I'll do everything in my powers to find the answer and get the problem fixed. If anyone has any questions feel free to pm me or call me at the office. They number is (817)244-6212 ext. 1016. I'll be more than happy to talk to you about your situation.

I tell you what, I've called Jason quite a few times and I have yet to stump him, he really knows his stuff. I use his co. product where ever I can and I've not been disappointed.

For customer support he can't be beat.

Thanks for all your help, Jason

Could be easier

I am in the process of installing a summit racing kit that I believe was made by its a snap. The instruction manual sucks!
I have rewired cars from scratch and had a easier time.
Qualiy is good, price was good, but if I was to do this 67 camaro again I would either start from scratch or buy a painless or francis camaro specific kit.
But hey, thats what hot rodding is all about!

Race car harness

I use a Nelson Specialties harness in my race car. Some of the tracks I run require it. The quality and support is fantastic. They are the most intelligent people I have ever dealt with. They do stuff for all the Cup teams but still take time and patience with the little guys like me

a lot of good info on this site...I usually just strip a harness out of a "junker"tear it apart and wire it up..
i think i'm spending too much time making my own harness..price has always been a major factor,,but my time is too...i think this time around ,,i'll buy a wire kit from maybe painless..but i will still have to shop around and find a good one for a decent price...

Yep, Home built gives U the perfect fit. I'm also too cheap to buy a harness kit. Too cheap to pay someone else to paint & do body work ( & I hate doing body work),do the interiors, build the motors, carbs, trannys, weld, fab. I even quit buying replacement panels. I pound out my own. like this dude.

It's a snap

My son has a '63 FORD Falcon. We put it's a snap wiring in it.What a pain! The problem started when I called tech help. The man on the other end only knew GM.Tried to tell me how to hook up a FORD light switch and ignition. It took 6 month and a lot of research and he told the wrong way to hook up my alternator did not charge! Now i'm in the process of looking for wiring for my '62 Ranchero.( will use GM switches if necessary) I do not like the fuse panel on the It's a snap.I want on that lays flat like oem.No power windows lock, ect. So now that I have company names off to check them out.Might do it myself ,but need a fuse panel that doesn't cost as much as one complete. Thanks Ken N.

Harnesses

I voted other because I installed a harness from Sacramento Vintage in my 52 F-1 GREAT FIT and ease of installing. The second harness was actually more of a re-wiring. I used part of the existing harness in my 65 Malibu SS and replaced certain wires with others that were in the kits by MAD Enterprises. On both kits the instructions were very clear and easy to follow.

I looked for months at every kit I could and decided on the 22 circuit highway kit from american autowire. The reason I liked it was because it terminates on each end . You can add circuits down the road with out a problem. I like how it terminates on the sides of the electrical panel and its easy to identify the circuits for troubleshooting. It came with all the switches and plastic connectors so far. I started installing it so I'll let ya'll know how I like it when I'm finished with it.

John
