Rebel Wire
Man, this is great. I just joined today and found this thread.
I'm a rep for a new company called Rebel Wire and have really enjoyed reading all the posts concerning wiring harnesses. Good to see Ron Francis on here too. He makes great kits and is a regular guy. Rebel Wire is the dream of an old time hot rodder and buddy of mine named Bob Miller from TN. Bob owned J & B Rod Shop for many years and has decided to start building kits. He asked me to help him get the word out and after seeing what he's building, I feel honored. His kits are good, solid, basic kits made in America by hand from American made components with a very competitive price. Bob is building kits for hot rodders and custom builders so you won't find brand specific, or replacement harnesses. What you will find is good quality at a good price. If anyone is interested or has any questions you can pm me or post a reply. Glenn |

OK tried doing multiple searches and got nowhere.
I'm installing an aftermarket wiring harness that came with a plug in for a GM steering column. I'm not using a GM steering column so I need to know what connects to what in each of the key positions. As in, when key is in acc. position wht wires make contact, and so forth. From there I should be fine. Any thoughts or links to a schematic would be great! Thanks all, Jeff |

Try this. There are 2 types of connectors - 3 7/8" and 4 1/4". Starting at the end, white is the brake switch, green is the right rear turn, yellow is the left rear turn, purple is the flasher, brown is the hazard, blue is the right front turn, light blue is the left front turn, and black is the horn. If you have a fax, i can fax a copy to you.

unless you have to deal with an on board computer, the home made is the way to go. You can color code it and number the wires just like any control type wiring draw a schematic and keep a record. You can also use machine tool wire which is extremely flexible and soft to work with. there are several types of sleeving availble which make the finished project more eye appealing and versatile. If you can't do it your self there are plenty of industrial electricians around who could help you.

I got my harness from Sacramento Vintage Ford it was a little pricey, but hell it went right in no problem. I told them it was a 49 f1 w/ a 351 windsor and they sent the harness to fit perfectly to all the stock hookups on the truck, plus the right ones for the modifications I made, it was a breeze

Who NOT to use. Ron Francis there tech support breaks down like this.
you either get a the tech with the customer service skills of a water buffalo. or they just dont answer the phone. News flash for ron francis if your selling wiring harnesses. Your gonna get a call to your technical support line. So do me a favor and support your product Either that or stop advertising as if your the god of wiring. and dont tell me you build a harness to what im driving cause you dont i get the same box everyone else gets. Dont ask me what ignition i have when i order if it dont matter. And dont get on here and put a post about how few of tech questions you have on your panels when you dont even answer the phone. Heres 15 spools of wire and some general directions go figure it out. |

wiring harness pool
I have used painless, ron frances, easy wire and quickwire harnesses. they will all work in most applications. I find the painless harness the easiest to use, I prefer their instruction manual over the others, as it seems to be most easily deciphered. I feel that it's double work to terminate both ends of each wire like the ron frances harness, but I have had no problems with any but the quickwire with installation .

more on francis
Read the post you left streetrodderbn. I originally went with francis due to the fact I was going with a custom dash and aftermarket gauges. I think the francis panel is one of the cleanest out there and the wire they use is great the stuff just will not burn.
I would expect though if they are going to advertise in a magazine dedicated to 66-77 broncos they would put forth some effort to researching connections on the factory switches such as hazards and wipers. I figured it out and all but they were clueless on the hazzards all they gave me were ideas. Then I wrote ron and aksed him few questions mentioned looking at a factory wiring diagram. Then he blast me for doing that. but yet they have no clue as to the connections on the hazzards or wipers with the delay box. They act as if no one will use there original switches. Then they only give you wire for the hot lead to them. I had 7 wires off the wiper switch they give me the one to the panel thats it. As if im only gonna rewire part of the truck. If i didnt use the factory diagrams and the old harness to trace wires I would still be worken on it. There add reads we like it rough. I can tell I also know why one company calls themself painless. love there tech line too the old call back in 30 minutes... great |

When done by a profession elec-tech is the kit a best buy due to the labor hours-cost
I am having the electrical for the interior on my 74 Charger done by a professional. I also heard that the kit will make resale of the vehicle better. I am going to be stuck with a wiring harness given to me. Even though the replacement harness has never been used do I need to get it tested before passing it on to someone else. Is this test before installation or sale a requirement only needed in California? From what I just read on this post I am sold on going with the kit via installation by a professional auto electrician. Will it take him more time to find the right kit because I have a Dodge? How many hours of labor is spent on installation of these kits?

I put a Lectric Limited harness in my 1960. It was a snap to install.... but since it was for an original 60 Vette it was wired for a generator and my Vette was converted over to an alternator over 20 years ago by me...

electrical wiring harness with altenator on your 60 Vet and reply from petrogirl thx
Thank your for your warning on the wiring harness for alternator and/or
a generator. I have a "1974 Charger." It is stock as it was from the factory so it does use an Altenator. I did replace the alternator...hope that does not affect all those matching numbers folks always talk about. Your info is greatly appreciated and relevant. Kind of you to take the time to email. Enjoy that Vet. Dad gave me a Yellow '65 Vet in 1965 and I did love that ride. Wow with the top off and crusing up Bellflower Blvd., Hollywood and Vine, in L.A. County. Sooo Cool!!! Yep..it was such fun. I gave it back though...too much auto insurance cost for a young lass just out on her own--even with free gasoline. Cruse those Boulevards but do not look too long in the business windows at yourself in that Finest '60 Vet. Great vehicles collide when one does that. I have seen it happed to really fine drivers and cars, often, over the years. Enjoy! Petrogirl |
