Can you take out the carpet? If so, you can put #3 grommets in the carpet and attach the floor mats to the carpet with plastic Christmas tree fasteners. You can get them in different colors and if you can't find some that go with your floor mats, you can dye the Christmas tree fasteners with SEM products. This is how I attached floor mats to the carpet in an Opel GT.
If you don't like this idea, there are other options.

I know for a fact that truck stops sell velcro strips. They might even have larger sizes in some home improvment stores like home depot or lowes..
I've used them to keep a lot of stuff from moving around like cup holders, CB radio equipment, coolers, and a host of other stuff. They could possibly do the trick for your floor mat's as well....

I appreciate your comments. But i have tried about everything-----plastic plugs i have 300 of them, but this will eventually pull the carpet loose, I need like a hook anchored thru the floor[one hole is enough]. Then a grommet put in to the mat, so it hooks each time therefore not, stirring up future trouble with the carpet and the mats.
sqz--------i have used velceor on all my panels inside my 32 coupe. [did the interior myself. If i unhooked the velcro to much in a carpet Well!! just isn't the answer i'm looking for.Your feet is what breaks most everything loose in time. the twisting and turning, hoping someone will chime in with anything else???????????? but thank you all

I've never tried this, but always thought it would work well. How about using the stainless snaps meant for canvas boat tops? Neat looking and sturdy. You could either use the screw in females on the floor, or if you can get to the bottom side of the carpet, the compression style attached to the carpet only might work. Just not sure if the carpent would be too thick.

The floor mats with the knobby back would be too thick to put snap buttons in, as would the normal thickness of carpet on the floor. It's hard enough to put a snap on 4 layers of boat cover fabric.

Advance Auto has some black rubber mats. top end of pricing for parts store stuff ( $40/ set of 2 ) but they do not slide on carpet.. they come with logo's. Chevy, Dodge, Ford and a few of the looney tunes charecters. I'v had a few sets over the years and they fit great. There trim to fit if you need to.

Floor mat hooks
Try the local Toyota dealer. The FJ Cruiser uses plastic hooks that attach to the vehicle with screws, and hold the mats in place through holes in the end near the seat. That solves the problem of movement.

thank you all for your help, i received some ideas here on this forum and i put them to work. I went and got the GM monagramed mats. i had the guy whos an upholsterer/on the corner from me, pop me a brass ring eyelet in the mat. Then i went to the mercury dealership and got a plastic hook type deal, that requires to small slits in order to insert the hook, in to the carpet then you just snap it together and its done, looks good and works good. see you guys the next time-------------------------------
