You probably don't have the secondary power wire hooked up or its broken. There is the large wire that goes from the positive of the battery to the starter, and there is also a smaller wire that goes to the rest of the accessories.

Also, check the big ground wire that goes from the negative to the engine block. Also. make sure the engine block is well grounded to the chassis......

That should give you a start.

OK...lets try again...

1st....check and make sure your grounds are good....and tight

2nd.....You need the big wire to go from the + on the battery to the big post on the solenoid of the starter.

3rd....You need another wire from the + of the battery, to the ignition switch. Do you have power at the ignition switch?

4th......When cranking the engine, you need 12 volts from the ignition switch to the small post (closest to the engine block) on the solenoid.

If you have all that, it should turn over.

5th....You need power to the coil to make the spark......Distributer needs to be working, set right at the right timing and all that jazz.....

For now, worry about steps 1-4

Are you sure the battery has enuf power?

Just because it lights up one bulb a good battery it makes not.

Rule of Batteries is one CCA
Cold
Cranking
Amp

per cubic inch of motor @ 70* F
2CCA @ 32*F

Minimum

touch the 2 terminals togther with a screw driver, it should crank over. run a jumper wire from the battery to the + side of the coil ( removable so you can shut it down by removing from the battery ).. squirt some starter fluid in the carb, crank it over and it just might start, but likely needs points and a condensor

No.......Connect the battery to the big terminal......Then, to make it crank over, take your screwdriver and touch the big terminal to the small one closest to the engine block.

Then, your starter may be bad.......The ones in the picture look pretty ratty and old.......you could take it off, take it apart and clean it up.

a battery charger won't provide enough amps to turn over an engine, if the battery has a weak cell, it will have low cranking amps anyway

Hi,
Have you tried turning the engine over by hand? it may be seized.
