won't start after running

87 ford bronco-302-efi. we had a problem of it not starting one day. it just cranked. we went to test it and the switch on the column got stuck and the engine kept cranking after we pulled the key out.... we put in a new starter, starter solenoid, ignition starter switch. tested it- no spark. new ignition module. started. so we then did a tune up-cap, rotor, plugs, wires. now when the truck is driven anywhere and shut off it will not start. needs to sit for a few hours. we installed a new fuel filter and coil-didn't help. fuel pressure is at 40 psi while cranking. book says 35 to 40. i installed an inline spark tester- the light lights up but not bright at all- not sure how bright it's supposed to be. any ideas out there? it's in my driveway and theres nothing worse then a ford in a chevy guys driveway.

Use a spark tester like a spark plug with the electrode cut off. You want to see a good blue or whitish blue spark that can jump at least 1/4 inch.
Go buy a noid light for a couple buck and plug it into one of the injector wire connectors. It should flash once every engine revolution. Now if you have that and 40 psi it should run.
It sounds like maybe a heat soak problem. Don't overlook the after market ignition module, NOBODY makes one as good as Ford does. I would rather have a junkyard Motorcraft module than a new one from NAPA or anyone else.
It sounds like you have some basic diagnostic skills but get frustrated and go to throwing parts at it.
Also if you have the TFI type of module (on side of dist.) don't forget the dielectric grease. It helps conduct away the heat from the module. It will not live long without this.

i've got some noid lights.. i'm gonna check that out tomorrow. the spark plug thing i'll try tomorrow as well. the reason for the replacement of all those parts is- starter+starter solenoid- burned up. the switch on the column was bad. the wires were replaced after finding 2 were broken. plugs were fouled up. cap and rotor just because everything else was being replaced. ign module because we had no spark originally. fuel filter because the one on the truck was nasty looking and it wouldn't hurt since i had one.... sorry i just wanted to explain myself so i didn't seem like one that just throws parts on hoping it'll fix it. :-)

but hey, i held a spark plug the other day to see if it had spark. shocked the bigeezuz out of me. i had those mechanix gloves on and was holding it at the boot. where do i hold it so i don't get shocked?

call a friend over to help you work on it, give him a few beers and your set. Sometimes you can get a couple of tests out of him if you tell him he held it in the wrong place

sounds like you need to replace the ecm had a mustang 5.0 that did the same thing and turned out it was the pcm
