Wool/Foam and all the different brands of compounds - What's good? My head's spinnin

I've read so much about different pads from Lake Country, 3M, Presta, etc etc.

I currently use a wool from O'reilly's and a 3M Black foam. I use Menzerna Medium Cut on the wool and 3M hand glaze on the foam.

It works but I'm not happy with how much residue I have when done. I'd like it to be cleaner. The other problem is that if I don't use enough compound the heat will melt the black foam right into my finish (lacquer). So I have to use a lot to get the speed I need. The problem is, after I'm done I have a scratch free finish but lots of cloudy residue.

Not sure what to do but I'm ready to start trying new products. I don't have a huge budget so I'm asking to see what works.

Thanks for your opinions!
